TCM Treatment for Stress and Anxiety

5 min read

Traditional Chinese Medicine helps relieve stress, anxiety, and emotional issues through safe, natural methods.

Stress and anxiety are common mental health issues in modern society. Symptoms may include insomnia, rapid heartbeat, sweaty palms, headaches, and fatigue. TCM views emotions and body as interconnected, treating both mind and body together.

From a TCM perspective, stress and anxiety relate to Liver Qi stagnation (肝氣鬱結) and imbalances in the Heart, Kidney, and Spleen. When energy stagnates, it causes both physical and emotional symptoms. Treatment focuses on releasing Liver Qi and balancing organs.

Acupuncture helps stimulate the release of endorphins and serotonin, which reduce anxiety and promote relaxation. Commonly used points include Yintang (印堂), Shenmen (神門), and Taichong (太衝), which calm the mind and release tension.

Beyond acupuncture, Chinese herbs such as Xiao Yao San (逍遙散) help release Liver Qi, while Gui Pi Tang (歸脾湯) nourishes the Spleen and Heart. Ear seed therapy is another method that provides relaxation throughout the day.

Most patients feel more relaxed after their first acupuncture session, with clear results after 4-6 sessions. Continued treatment combined with lifestyle adjustments such as regular exercise, breathing exercises, and adequate sleep is recommended.
