TCM Treatment for Menopause Symptoms

5 min read

Relieve hot flashes, insomnia, and mood swings during menopause with Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments.

Menopause is a natural transition for women occurring around age 45-55. Common symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, mood swings, vaginal dryness, and osteoporosis. In TCM, these symptoms result from Kidney Yin deficiency, causing false heat (虛熱).

Acupuncture helps balance hormones and the autonomic nervous system, reduces hot flashes, improves sleep quality, and stabilizes mood. Commonly used points include Sanyinjiao (三陰交), Taixi (太溪), and Guanyuan (關元), which nourish the kidneys and balance Yin and Yang.

Chinese herbs for menopause typically nourish Kidney Yin and clear false heat. Formulas include Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (六味地黃丸) for general Kidney Yin deficiency, or Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan (知柏地黃丸) for those with more heat symptoms. Prescriptions are customized for each patient.

Ear seed therapy (耳穴貼壓) is another effective method. Seeds placed on points related to hormones, nervous system, and stress can be self-pressed at home when symptoms arise, providing immediate relief from hot flashes and mood swings.

Women in menopause should begin treatment when symptoms start. Continuous treatment for 2-3 months typically shows clear results. This should be combined with lifestyle adjustments such as regular exercise, avoiding spicy foods and caffeine, adequate sleep, and stress-relieving activities.
